We rented a housekeeping cottage for a week in mid August 2001 at Pine Cliff Resort 5 miles or so from the town of Barry's Bay and about 30 miles from Algonquin Park (all this about 3 hours north of Toronto).  We have driven through this area several times on other vacations to Canada and this time made it our destination.  We have seen moose every time we have been through this park (even just driving through), but not this year!  However we did see a family of loons with two babies and we did see black bears.  The 3 bears were at the dump in Combermere, not the most natural of settings, but believe me they are still wild and can move quickly.

We selected the cottages at Pine Cliff because they allow dogs and we want to include our dogs on our vacation whenever possible.  The main activities in the area in the summer are hiking, boating (only canoe in the park, power boats are allowed in the surrounding area), and fishing.  We have never boated before (except when someone else was in control of the boat) so this was a new experience for us.  We rented a small power boat from Pine Cliff instead of a canoe so we could bring the dogs along on the water.  They loved it and so did we!

We had a wonderful time and I welcome you to view some of the pictures I have included on this website.
